B.Arch (Bachelor of Architecture)
B.Arch is a five-year studio-based degree that trains students to design buildings and spaces. It is creative, technical and demanding — and it is the only route to registering as an architect in India.

Course overview
Architecture design studio is the core of the course: every semester students design projects of increasing complexity, from small structures to housing and urban schemes. Alongside, they study building construction, materials, structures, services, climate, history and theory, and professional practice.

Eligibility
- Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with minimum marks as prescribed by the Council of Architecture, or an eligible diploma with Mathematics
- Valid NATA or JEE Main Paper 2A score, depending on the institution

Where the course is offered
B.Arch is offered by Schools of Planning and Architecture, NITs, a few IITs, state government colleges and many private colleges. Ensure the college is approved by the Council of Architecture.

Government institutions typically charge modest to moderate fees. Private colleges commonly charge about ₹1–3 lakh a year or more, plus material and model-making costs.

Frequently asked questions
Is maths needed for B.Arch?
Yes. Council of Architecture rules have required Mathematics in Class 12 or an eligible diploma.
NATA or JEE Paper 2?
Many students take both. See NATA and JEE Main Paper 2 (Architecture).
Can I work as an architect without registration?
No. Only those registered with the Council of Architecture may use the title “architect”.
